I have learned some things.
1. Ticks are disgusting. Especially when you find them in your bed. That trick with the vaseline? So doesn't work. We have decided that leaving tick heads (ewww) under our skin is way better than having something with lyme disease sucking our blood.
2. I am collecting orange kittens. I am officially up to three with the new one I just rescued from a tree in the pouring rain.
3. Think carefully before letting Grandpa babysit. Especially if it is the week before school pictures.
4. Making glass beads is fascinating but I won't be quitting my day job.
5. Closing on a house is a better high than doing drugs (not that I have done drugs you see).
Hmmm. Not sure what else I have learned. I have to tell the story of the cat though. I went for a walk on Sunday and heard this pitiful crying that I thought was one of my kittens. Came home and sat on the porch swing with my coffee to enjoy the rain. Again with the pitiful meowing. This time I realize it is coming from a tree next to my house. About 20 feet up is the most gorgeous fluffy orange kitten. I tried calling to him but his meowering and facial expressions indicated that there was no way down. I got my eight foot ladder out and balanced on the top of it but he was still another six or so feet up. One of my ten month old kittens joined me and then jumped to the roof of the trailer that my dad owns. And then promptly lost his balance and fell about ten feet to the ground. Great way to inspire confidence in our scared, stuck kitty ya idge. I decided to get down and give him some more time (you know - "if he gets hungry enough he will come down"). I put some catfood at the bottom of the tree. Then it started to pour down rain. His meowing tripled in patheticness. I got a big moving box, climbed BACK up the ladder and balanced it and me on the top step. The kitten looked dubious. I smacked the branch and shook the box. A thought formed on his furrowed brow and I knew that I had won. Seconds later with a big ROWR, he leaped/fell into the box. I actually looked around to see if the hero in action cameras got the footage. One bath and bowl of food later, this little guy (christened Sampson) had bonded to me. He is just adorable. The other kittens are disgusted. He is clearly not worthy in their world.
There are a few more pictures in my newly upgraded Gallery so go HERE.
